Why can’t everyone get DSL now

For DSL to be available, two things must happen: 1. There must be a special piece of equipment in the telephone company’s central office called a DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer). This is the equipment that receives the digital signals from your DSL modem or router at your site. At this time, not all central offices have this special piece of equipment. As more and more of our partners deploy DSL, more central offices will have this equipment. 2. If the central office does have a DSLAM, your site must be a certain distance away from the central office. DSL is a distance-sensitive technology meaning that your speed will depend upon your site’s distance from the central office. Some homes and businesses will be too far away even if a DSLAM is in the central office. Upcoming technology breakthroughs will eliminate some of these distance limitations.
